Stamped Metal Plant Markers

I love the look of plant markers and made a set of Stamped Metal Plant Markers to label herbs in my herb garden.

The metal and wire used to make these is galvanized, so these markers won’t rust and can be used for years to come.

How to Make the Plant Markers

To make these markers, you’ll need:

Cut Circles from Roof Flashing

I used roof flashing left over from a long ago craft project.

Use tin snips to cut a section of metal flashing.

Trace circles onto the metal and cut out with the tin snips. A drill press could also be used to cut out the circles.

Be sure to wear heavy-duty gloves when working as the cut edges can be sharp.

The edges can be sanded to smooth them out.

Stamp Circles with Plant Names

Place a circle on a block of wood and use a metal stamp kit to stamp the plant name onto the circle.

I found a hammer to work better than the tool that came with the kit for making deeply stamped letters.

Use an awl to add a hole to the top of each circle.

Use pliers to bend a section of wire to form a hook for each marker.

These are a few of the plant makers that I made.

Enjoy the Plant Markers

These plant markers are not only functional, but I think that they look nice as well.

I also have made stamped herb markers using silverware and wood burned plant markers.

If you have a metal stamp kit, check out how to make personalized Christmas ornaments.

I made an ornament for each child in my homeroom class for Christmas and they loved them.

  1. Thanks for sharing a great idea. I ordered metal markers from a garden supply catalog but they came with a marker somewhat like a sharpie and the ink fades in the sun. Now I can stamp them like yours and they will last forever! Please tell us where to get the stamps!

  2. Those look great! Where did you find a metal stamp kit? Michaels or Hobby Lobby or someplace similar??

  3. Those are sooo cute! You are so smart. I bet your friend will love them too. I might have to get a stamp kit and try my hand at jewelry.

  4. I think those plant markers are super and they will weather beautifully. I don’t have any of the tools needed to make them but I’m wondering if you couldn’t sell them as sets. I’d certainly love to have/give a set as a hostess gift. Jane F.

  6. I found a set of letter stamps when cleaning in the garage this summer. I don’t know if they were my husband’s or if his uncle gave them to him. I will try them out on a project like yours, but I’ll use the metal juice lids I save from 12 ounce frozen juice containers. I have LOTS as I use them at school for Christmas tin punch ornaments. Thanks for sharing! ♥♫

    1. I hope your group enjoys making the plant markers. The edges can be quite sharp, so make sure the participants wear gloves.

  7. I think that the plants markers are fantastic and they’ll be weathered beautifully. I don’t own any of the equipment needed to make them , however I’m curious if you could offer sets. I would certainly like to receive the set to a hostess as a gift.
