Out of Town Weekend
This weekend we headed to Maryland to attend a celebration for my Great-Aunt Catharine who turned 100.
After the birthday party, we headed to the family farm to visit with my cousin who couldn’t attend because the party was held during milking time. My cousin Mike is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Growing up, Mike spent countless hours entertaining me and my brother.
Mike’s cows are happy cows. This one wanted some attention.
Mr. SP climbed to the top of the tallest silo to see the view. Can you see him on top?
The view was worth the burn in his legs and the tear in his pants.
You can tell by the smile that climbing the silo was a real thrill.
Sunday we visited Monacacy Battlefield. Here you see Best Farm where the battle started and the Union troops delayed the initial Confederate attack.
Then we visited Luckett’s Store near Leesburg, VA. Miss Mustard Seed sells things here and I was excited to see some of her furniture in person.
This dresser is the only Miss Mustard Seed piece that I saw.
Mama and I enjoyed looking through the store. I wouldn’t make a special trip to go back, but if I am ever in the Leesburg area again I will stop in.
After taking Mama back to Walnut Avenue, we made the long trek to Virginia Beach to spend the night. I have a morning appointment for my next round of prolotherapy back injections making it necessary for us to travel to the area the night before. As a treat we got an oceanfront room for the night.
The Shamrock 8K, 1/2 Marathon, and Marathon were all this weekend. Lucky for us, the festivities were over by the time we arrived and the beach was quiet.
It’s been fun to be out of town for the weekend but tiring, too. I think we’ll both need a weekend to recover from our weekend once we get home. I’ll have to rest all week post-shots and hope to be feeling good again by next weekend. My back is much improved thanks to prolotherapy and I’m hoping that I won’t have to endure it too many more times. I get to miss a day of work to get the shots making my work week four days instead of five which means the weekend will be here again before I know it!
How was your weekend?
What great views from the top of that silo! That’s something you don’t see often, if ever. Thanks for making the climb and sharing the view with us mr. SP! Hope your treatments are successful
Great weekend! My daughter was in that race.

What a wonderful weekend. 🙂 So glad you got to spend time with family. 🙂
Always wonderful when one gets to spend time with family! I can see you really enjoyed your time there. 100??? Wow, that’s amazing. Imagine the life she’s lived!
I can’t believe Mr. SP climbed that silo! And in his Sunday clothes too with street shoes…wow!
What a wonderful weekend story! Boy, do I remember things revolving around milking time! Love the pics of the farm.
I hope your back is feeling much better. I can’t imagine doing all that traveling with an injury. It has been a long process, hasn’t it?
Wow 100 – that is simply amazing! The cake is super cute and I am adoring your pictures! xo
Looks like a practically perfect weekend 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
What a great weekend! I hope the prolotherapy is not too painful and helps you get back in running shoes. Love all the photos!
