Thrifted Stool Makeover
Who doesn’t love a good before and after makeover project? I recently gave a thrifted stool a new life with paint and a fun stenciled top.
Let’s take a look at this stool’s before picture. The stool had never been painted and had a slightly warped top, but since it was quite sturdy, I couldn’t pass it up for just a few dollars at my favorite thrift shop.
The makeover started with applying two coats of AS chalk paint in pure white followed by wax. I love the sheen and soft feel that wax gives a piece painted with chalk paint. To add some bling to the top of the stool, I stenciled a fun pattern with gold paint. You might remember this stencil from my side table makeover.
Metallic paint isn’t easy to photograph. Outside the gold looks dull, but trust me, it’s bright and cheerful.
You can see some shine here.
This stool makeover didn’t take long and cost $0 since I had all of the supplies on hand.
I’m glad I could give this stool a new look.

love! super cute.
Great job Paula! I’ve always loved the look of white and gold together.
Paula,
What a delightful update. It looks clean and fresh. Thanks for sharing. Pinned 🙂
I love the stool. You wouldn’t know it was the same piece. You are so right about photographing metallic paint. It’s really hard for me….I didn’t know if anyone else had the same problem. Have a great weekend!!
I really, really love this! Please tell me about the wax. What kind of wax are you referring to? I’ve never used chalk paint, but my sister was telling me about it and I’d love to give it a try.
Kathleen – The wax Annie Sloan in clear. I wipe it on with a cloth, let it dry, and then buff it with another cloth. Chalk paint feels chalky (duh 🙂 ) without the addition of wax.
Thanks Paula. I will tell my sister too because I don’t thing she knows this. She is going to re-do a dresser in chalk paint.
Love your stool’s new look, Paula! The gold pattern rocks!
Adorable stool, and I love the pattern!

You know me, I’m a HUGE fan of anything metallic, so I am definitely loving this adorable stool. What a great find at the thrift store. You rescued it from a dull and boring life!
What a great choice of color and pattern. Really great makeover.

From ordinary to extraordinary! I love the gold and white together, very classy!
Do you put the gold on after the wax? Does it stay on? I’ve never tried chalk paint and wax so I imagine the wax would go on last to seal it all in, but then would that stop the gold from shining? However you did it, it looks lovely.
Love it! Love it! I would love it if you joined and contribute your awesome posts at my link party at City of Creative Dreams on Fridays 😀 Hope to see you there at City of Creative Dreams Link Party
