Back to the Lake

We braved the cold on Saturday morning to look at a few properties at the lake. Prices keep dropping and it seems like some owners are desperate to sell. We visited four properties, none of which would be something that we would buy. We are not even sure if we could get a loan the way things are now with the economy. It never hurts to look, so off we went with the car registering four degrees when we left home.

The first property has been slightly updated, but still needs way too much work. The dock needs work, it needs new windows, and the deck is not stable. The basement of this house looks like it might have been a mother-in-law suite at some point. It has a huge outdated kitchen, nice living room with a fireplace, a decent sized bath (with no towel bars), and a bedroom that barely fit a twin bed. The upstairs has a wonderful layout. There were two nice sized bedrooms, a hall bath (again no towel bars), and an L shaped kitchen, dining area, and living room. The kitchen cabinets have been painted white, but the insides of the cabinets were pretty yucky. The drawers in the kitchen still needed pulls and the stove needed to be replaced. This place was a definite “no” because it would require too much money to update. It has lovely views and someone will make it a nice home or second home.

The second house that we visited was the most expensive and is out of our price range. It also has more yard than I’m willing to mow. It has five bedrooms and has been used as a rental. It is on a nice lot in a nice subdivision with great views. The basement was a little odd. It has a family room with a fireplace, second master suite with a very strange large bath (there were two big chairs in the bathroom), and a second bedroom with no closet. The upstairs was open with the kitchen, dining area, and living room all in one area with great lake views. There was a full bath in the hall, a master suite with a bathroom, and two more bedrooms with lake views.

The third house was an immediate “no” because we didn’t like the water in the cove where it is located. The cove was really narrow and the water looked stagnant. We didn’t take pictures of this house.

The fourth house is also a rental. It is cute as a button and would be a “yes” if it had three bedrooms. It only has two bedrooms. I loved the floorplan of the home. The kitchen, dining area, and living room are open. It has a bright and sunny enclosed porch. The master bedroom was huge with its own large bath. There was a large hall bath, a laundry room, and small second bedroom. This house would be great for us because the lot is wooded and there would be no grass to mow.

It is always fun to go to the lake, even when it is freezing cold. It is also fun to look when you are just looking and have no pressure to buy. The search continues!
