Bloom of the Red Maple

One of the things that my life science students learn about is the four phyla of plants:  moss, ferns, conifers, and flowering plants.  It’s hard for many of the students to imagine that trees like Oaks and Maples bloom.

The Red Maple in my yard is currently blooming, so I had to capture pictures to use for school.

Have you paid attention to the bloom of the Red Maple?  When you take the time to look, you’ll see that it is quite pretty.

Isn’t this tiny little bloom stunning?  Each bloom makes a seed.  It’s no wonder that I have so many seeds to rake and sweep in the fall!

Spring is the perfect season to slow down and take a moment to really admire Mother Nature’s true beauty.

  1. Paula, I am so glad that you are teaching your students to slow down and notice the beauty in nature! Carla

  2. We were in VA Beach this weekend and I couldn’t get over how many things were blooming! It was lovely! Came back to south central PA and I’ve got nothing. Hopefully soon!!!

  3. That is soooo pretty! Is that one of the trees that the leaves turn red in the fall? I wish I had trees. That’s the bad thing about living in a newer subdivision – no mature trees.

  4. I can tell you’re giving that camera a workout!! 🙂 Great nature shots, Paula! 🙂

  5. GORGEOUS! There are no trees in my new neighborhood (moving again. thank goodness!) and I would looooove to go outside and stare at these beauties daily! sooo pretty! <3

  6. Yes indeed they are all so pretty. Some of the trees have such tiny flowers you have to get really close to see how beautiful they really are. Great pictures. Hugs, Marty
