Burlap Table Runner
Picture this….Virginia Tech…1989…a young co-ed pulls an almost all-nighter sewing by hand an Indian costume for Halloween.
Does, “Picture This”, make you think of the Golden Girls?
The costume has been worn several times over the years. The hand sewing worked like a charm!
Being that the college student was an elementary education major, she kept all of the burlap scraps, “just in case”, she ever needed them.
Back to 2009….Burlap is big! I see it everywhere and am dying to make something. I go to my fabric stash and low and behold, there are my 1989 scraps, tucked away, “just in case”, and wouldn’t you know it, one scrap was perfect for a table runner.
I stenciled a monogram on either end and used iron-on hemming tape to add chocolate brown ribbon to all of the sides.
I’m so glad that I saved those scraps back in 1989!

Paula, I love the table runner. A very updated and fresh look. What a good job and how inspiring!

you’re a cute little Indian squaw…I bet Mr. SP likes your costume!! 🙂
Love the runner! Great job!

Your table runner looks great! What a fun costume as well! :o)
Super cute! I love burlap too! ~Ashley
Great table runner! It didn’t cost you anything either, which is even better. I love the costume, too.

Love the table runner….and you’re a fellow HOKIE! What about that. I was a few years before you, but a proud graduate of Pamplin’s College of Business at VA TECH!!
I love that table runner!! I am wanting to do something like that, but every year have my kids do “hand turkeys” on it.
I think I may try yours, too!
By the way, when I taught school, I had TONS of stuff saved like that. When I quit I gave it all away! 🙁
Burlap is such a great and thrifty fabric. I love the monogram as well.

Cute – love your indian look — Just thought I’d let you know that I’ve got some “Virginia Is For Lovers” glasses on my give-a-way for my 100th post — come on over if you’re interested!
Love the outfit ;-). Cute table runner. I can’t believe you still have that fabric.
Very clever table runner. I love it.
The runner is very nice, but I just have to say I do love the gourds, they are so different..I adore the costume….I am a new follower…come visit
Like everyone right now, I am loving burlap. Going to make some monogramed pillows for my leather couches….
I love your pretty runner…it looks great.
Very creative!
Love it!!! 🙂 Yours has much cleaner lines than mine…I love the ribbon all the way around!!
You’re right about burlap being all the rage. I’m seeing it everywhere. Your table and new runner are lovely. Great job!!
Blessings!
Gail
Love it – great idea! The monogram really makes it look “classy”. I love burlap myself – I seem to be finding all kinds of uses for it these days. Thanks for sharing such a great idea.
Love the table runner!!!

I love it! Burlap is SO making a come back. The stencil adds that elegant feel to it.
I can relate to your “educator majors save everything” comment. I am still finding things that I saved 6-10 years ago for my students.
Super cute runner!
What a great runner! Isn’t it nice when you can justify saving things “just in case” by actually using them 🙂
The Golden Girls reference made me smile.
I love the table runner. The costume was pretty cute too.
I saw your post from A Soft Place to Land. It caught my eye because today I just posted a couple of burlap ideas on my blog. One was a table runner. IF you get a chance, check them out. Nice job–on both counts!
