Butt Ugly Plant – Except for May
I believe that this plant is called a Devil’s Backbone. (Please correct me if you think I’m wrong.) I think it’s butt ugly, but then it charms me every May by putting on a beautiful blooming show, so I keep it. I inherited this plant from my grandmother when she had to move into a nursing home. It was hanging in her garage and no one wanted it. Wonder why? It’s prickly and the foliage is not attractive at all. Here it is in all its blooming glory:

Is your butt ugly plant something akin to a christmas or thanksgiving cactus? The blooms look similar. It certainly has a gorgeous flower.
Rebecca – I would guess that they may be in the same family. This thing has long, strappy leaves with tiny thorns on the edges.
I’ve never seen one of those in bloom! why, it is gorgeous…now I guess I understand the attraction…especially if you can hide it away until bloom time…
