Easy to Make Dog Pillows
I’ve mentioned a time or two that I was lucky to inherit a very large supply of fabric from my mother-in-law who was an outstanding seamstress and quilter. I love finding uses for the fabrics that she purchased and didn’t get to use. One piece of fabric I’m sure was purchased with many projects in mind. When I inherited this fabric, I had no idea what how I’d ever use it. Now that we have Sherman, I’ve turned into a dog lover and after looking at these sweet faces, I decided that pillows would be a good use for this fabric.
Is your dog’s breed shown?
My mother-in-law also had this adorable doggie print, probably intended to be used for a quilt back.
I started this project by cutting out four pillow fronts and four pillow backs. The fabric on the left was also intended to be used for a quilt back. I ironed heat ‘n bond to the back of the dog fabric and cut each dog out.
I ironed each dog in the middle of the front fabric piece and used a zigzag stitch to add a decorative touch. (The Golden Retriever unfortunately got destroyed by my iron, so he didn’t make it to this step.)
Sew around three sides. Leave an opening on the fourth side for turning. Trim the edges and corners. Turn and press.
Stuff each pillow and sew closed by hand or with a machine.
What dog lover wouldn’t want to receive a decorative dog pillow as a gift?

Those are so cute. I love dogs, although my dog’s breed is not shown. This would be a fun, unique gift idea for a dog lover.
I wish the fabric had more breeds. Thanks for your nice compliment.
Very cute. Great for a dog lover. You are so talented!
Thanks, Alison. I am hoping to sell some of these pillows at a Christmas sale that my mom and I are participating in in early December.
Paula you could totally sell these! Paws down– perfect pillows!
I love these Paula…they are so pretty! My pup isn’t represented because she is a new breed…Malti-pom. (Maltese / Pomeranian)
I agree, who wouldn’t love to get one of these!!! Thanks so much for sharing at Amaze Me Monday!
Blessings,
Cindy
Oh, Cindy, I’m bet your Mali-Pom is adorable!
Cute pillows. My husband would love a pillow of a Schnauzer. Posted this on Pinterest as your post was 2 in front of mine on DebbieDoos.
I wish my fabric had a Schauzer! I need to investigate ordering more that features a different variety of breeds.
Oh how fun, I love this idea. Thanks for the tutorial and for linking to Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty
Those pillows are adorable! My dog is a mix, so I would never find one that looks like him, and I don’t know how to sew 😉 Thanks so much for sharing with us at Best of the Weekend. Have a wonderful week, and we hope to see you again Friday night!
Lisa – My dog is a mix, too. I guess if I want to make a pillow with his likeness, I’ll have to use photo transfer paper!
We have a real version of the white standard poodle here. Really–looks just like her! JoAnns has a lot of dog print/related fabric.
I will have to check out JoAnne’s for dog themed fabric. I adore standard poodles!
