End of May Blooms

May passed by without me slowing down to enjoy my flowers.  I realized over the weekend that I saw the first Peony bloom and then I totally missed the big show.

Luckily the flower show goes on and there’s quite a bit to enjoy at the end of May in my yard.

Verbena Bonariensis reseeds freely and is 100% deer proof.  I let it grow pretty much where ever it comes up because I like its purple blooms.

Hot pink Lychnis is a site to see.  This also reseeds easily and the deer don’t touch it.

Hydrangeas are one of the stars of the yard show in late May.  Mama bought this variety for me at Andre Viette’s nursery years ago.

The planters hanging from my deck are starting to fill out and look pretty.  I like the color combination that I used this year.

It’s now June 1st and yellow blooming Yarrow has joined the show.  May and June sure are pretty flower months!

  1. I enjoyed this walk through the garden and look forward to the June and July shows. Hydrangeas are one of my favorites.

  2. Beautiful! I envy all your sun–I have so much deep shade we can’t do a whole lot with flowers, so I just have to live vicariously through others!

  3. Your blue and purple flowers are so pretty! I find myself gravitating to those colors, as well. And your white hydrangeas are gorgeous … fine ladies of any garden party! Have you ever tried plumbago (plumbago auriculata)? It is deer resistant and has lovely, delicate blue or white flowers. Not sure the white is deer resistant – but I know the blue is. Leslie

  4. Paula, you have quite an impressive garden!!! I love the white hydrangeas. I want to plant a few on the right side of our home.

  5. Oh, I’m so glad I’m able to comment on your blog. Now how gorgeous are all of your flowers. Your yard looks like a park. Enjoy it and I can tell you have a green thumb.
    Be a sweetie,

  6. GORGEOUS! Paula, you’ve made your gardens into showstoppers.

It’s June 1–are you all finished with school? Ready for the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer??

  7. Beautiful flowers and window boxes! Hydrangeas are my favorite, I ahve 10 bushes:):) XO, Pinky

  8. How lucky you are! Such a beautiful garden. Those hydrangeas are marvelous. Thanks for sharing.

  9. You’ve got some pretty blooms! Our hydrangeas are not nearly as advanced as yours. I’m glad I was able to back track and find your post on garlic. We are awaiting our first crop. We just didn’t know what to look for as far as pulling it up, but now we do! We have 240 bulbs!

  10. Hi Paula!
I could have sworn I left a comment yesterday but I do not see it so I am leaving another one!

Your garden is just lovely and you must have great things to choose from when you make a fresh arrangement. Your large planting bed is awesome!

Thanks so much for sharing all your gorgeous flowers and plantings, Paula.

Hope you had a great weekend!

  11. Love, love, love hydrangeas! They are so pretty. Your hanging baskets on the deck are gorgeous too!

  12. This year I noticed that everyone in my neighborhood has Hollyhock. I had no idea what it was and asked my mom who called it St. Josephs Staff, only she said it in Spanish but for the life of me I can’t remember how it’s pronounced!
