Hot Virginia Dip
I can hardly remember a Christmas party growing up that didn’t include Hot Virginia Dip.
Hot Virginia Dip
Hot Virginia Dip is a baked appetizer that is both creamy and salty thanks to cream cheese, sour cream, dried beef, and garlic salt.
This dip is easy to make and is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
My mom started making this after attending a Christmas party hosted by the parents of dear friends when I was in the 7th grade.
The recipe is from the wonderful Virginia Hospitality cookbook. This copy was my grandmother’s.
Granny made notes by her recipes. I love to read her notes and to look at the dates or events when she served a particular dish. (Georgia is my mom and Nancy is my aunt.)

Paula, this looks yummy. I have a family gathering next month and I’ll give this a try. Thanks for the recipe and what a great gift to have your grandmother’s book with her handwriting.
Yummy! This looks like something my family would enjoy and a great way to use up my pecans. (5 pecan trees in our front yard!)
What is dried beef?
I am always looking for good dip recipes, and this looks yummy. I’ll have to try it! Carla
It looks sooo good!! I bet it would be yummy served on a crusty bread too. Thanks for sharing, Paula. 🙂
This looks delicious! And how wonderful that you have your grandmother’s copy of that beautiful book! I treasure the few things I have with my grandmother’s handwriting. 🙂
Good morning Paula. I have a similar recipe as yours and I think being a Virginia girl myself, I need to rename mine!
Love the looks of your old family cookbook. I too love to write dates and notes in mine. It will be fun for others to read down the line.
Love this dip!
Mmmmmm, that looks yummy. How great that you have this family heirloom.
Now that looks delicious!
This sounds so good. I love fixing different types of dips when we have gatherings so I will have to add this next time we have one.
I also love it came from your grandmother cookbook. I have a couple of written recipes that were my grandmothers.
Question…we both have the same everyday dishes and the dish you have your dip in looks to be a casserole dish. Am I right? I did nto know they have serving pieces to this pattern. I will have to check this out. I never saw any when I got ours.
Paula, I LOVE Hot Virginia Dip and have the Virginia Hospitality cookbook. I make that dip often. I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t love it as you said. That cookbook has many wonderful recipes. It’s one of my favorite cookbooks that I use often.
I have that same cookbook! I haven’t looked at it for a long time ~ thanks for the reminder. The dip looks delish.
Looks scrumptious, I think I’ll try it but without the pecans. I can’t stand them but I think I’ll make this for my Super Bowl Party.
Mmmmm, sounds AND looks yummy! Interesting combination of ingredients – I might have to try it out 🙂
YAY! I’ve been waiting for you to post this recipe! It sounds YUMMY! I love everything in it so I’m definitely putting it on my football party list. Thanks Paula!
I misplaced my Virginia Hospitality, and your post saved me tonight! Me, and my holiday party thank you!
What is dried beef? is that like Beef Jerky? I looks good but where does one get dried beef?
Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe.
I made it for Christmas Eve back home in Pennsylvania and it was the hit of the party!
Thanks Again!
Try substituting the dried beef for Red Eye or Country Ham….DELISH!
That is a great idea, Suzanne! I am definitely going to try your tip.
Paula
I join the chorus of those asking about the dried beef – where do you get it and how it looks? TIA!
Yummy! Thanks for sharing! I’d love to see more of your go to recipes. ?
We made something like this but I know it wasn’t called this. I have forgotten about it so need to make it again.
I can’t wait until my taste buds like meat again so that I can make it.
This really looks good, Paula. I’m featuring you at tomorrow’s FWF party.
Showing the ingredients, and the dried beef will help me to track it down at the store 😉
hugs,
Rachelle
Thank you so much for the feature!
Looks yummy! Pinned.
