Newport Trip :: Day Four (Topiary Garden)
We checked out of our hotel on day four and headed to Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth, RI. This seven acre estate overlooking Narragansett Bay was purchased in 1872 by Thomas Brayton. He hired as his superintendent Portuguese gardener Joseph Carreiro, who created the gardens and topiary.
The house isn’t always open for tours, but we got lucky and visited on a day that a tour was available.
After we touring the house, we visited the gardens. The star of the show are the 30+ topiaries.
I was blown away by the beauty of these gardens.
Next we followed a topiary lined path to the water.
Our last afternoon was spent driving to Cape Cod to have a quick look-see. We got off the highway to see Hyannis which ended up being a bad choice because of traffic. We soon gave up on our Cape Cod look-see and headed back to RI to the good old Hampton Inn near the Warsaw airport.
And so ended a marvelous four day trip!
Looks like such a fun place to vist. I have really enjoyed following along on your trip. I just mentioned to my husband that we need to visit RI – all because of your posts!
Love topiary gardens. How beutiful and fun.
WOW ZAH!! that is beautiful!!
I love the bears and the path way.
The ideas for topiaries can be infinite!
whoa, love that path! this totally reminds me of the topiary garden in holland that was part of this open air museum we went to. totally forgot about that-thanks for reminding me!
