OBX Report
Just what the doctor ordered….. A sunny weekend out of town at the beach.
We usually stay in my mom’s beach house, but for this trip we were in a hotel. It was a real treat for us to have an oceanfront room. We slept with the sliding door open so that we could hear the waves all night.
Here’s what we woke up to on Friday morning:
We thought that the tennis tournament started on Friday at noon, but it ended up not starting until Saturday, so the day was free!
We started the day by going to the Nags Head Pier for breakfast. My dad and my brother used to love fishing here. It’s nice to eat by the water.
Then we went to Duck Woods to practice. I found the skirt that I’m wearing on sale at Kilmarlic for $20! You have to love a bargain!
After tennis, it was on to our favorite OBX restaurant, Tortuga’s Lie. This is a true beach bar. I love looking at the license plates hanging on the ceiling. We always get the same thing, the blackened fish wrap. YUM!
Then it was on to Manteo to enjoy walking by the water and browsing in the shops. Manteo is such a quaint town.
This wreath was hanging on the door of a catering place. Wouldn’t it be cute at the beach for Christmas?
The Red Hat ladies were having a convention or meeting at our hotel. Have you ever seen so much red and purple in one room at one time??
Friday night was a pro exhibition at Duck Woods. It was fun to watch the pros battle it out on the court while sipping a glass of wine. We had the opportunity to meet some of the nice Duck Woods CC members, too. If I lived at the beach, I’d definitely want to be a member of this club. The members were so nice and so welcoming! I love the fall decorations outside of the tennis shop.
We spent all of Saturday playing at Kilmarlic. Mr. SP won both of his matches. My partner and I lost our first match 6-0, 6-0. Even though we lost, I really enjoyed playing against that team. The games were fast and furious with a lot of great points. Our opponenets were really good and really nice! We were able to win our second match pretty easily.
Here’s Mr. SP with his partner and me with mine. We did not know either of them before the weekend. They both were super nice and we enjoyed playing with them.
Mama and my aunt and uncle came to watch us play.
Pumpkins on display at Kilmarlic:
Saturday night was a dinner and silent auction at Duck Woods. I bought a photograph of the moon over the ocean. I’ll frame it and give it to Mama for her beach house.
We spent all of Sunday playing at Duck Woods. Mr. SP and his partner went to the finals, but they couldn’t quite pull it off to win. I was so proud of him for making it that far. My partner and I won the consolation bracket.
We stopped at Currituck BBQ on the way home. This was our first time at this restaurant and it definitely won’t be the last. If you like NC style BBQ, you’ll love this place.
It was such a great weekend. We’ll go back to the Outer Banks Veteren’s Day weekend. I already can’t wait!
I’m so jealous…great fall pictures, and tennis too. What could have been better?
What a weekend…the beach and fall too!
I’m so officially jealous!
What a great weekend! The next time you’re down there, you should have lunch at the Kill Devil Grill- my cousin manages it. We will be in the Outer Banks for Thanksgiving!
Food, tennis, gorgeous weather…sounds like a perfect weekend to me! Glad you had fun.
Sounds so fun!
