Philadelphia Suggestions
Mr. SP and I are thinking about taking a short trip to Philadelphia. I’ve never been there and after watching National Treasure fifty million times on tv (thanks to Mr. SP), I’m itching to see some of historical sites. I also read in Shape Magazine that Philly has a great bike trail system and I know that we would enjoy that.
If you’ve been to Philly or are from the area, could you give us some “must do and see” suggestions? I’d also love a suggestion on a great place to stay.
Paula your Philly visit wouldn’t be complete without the traditional run up the Art Museum steps, in honor of Rocky (Sly Stallone). There are many, many great historical sites and great museums. Off the beaten path is an interesting historic place to visit, the Eastern State Penitentiary. And directly across the street is Jack’s Firehouse Grill. Jack was Bobby Flays partner on the old Grillin and Chillin show. There is so much to see and do in Philly. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures there.

Wow, it’s been so long since I was in Philly (8th grade, maybe??) that I can’t really remember much except for seeing the Liberty Bell and where the Continental Congress met. 🙂 Would love to go back…hope you have fun!

If you like Museums the Franklin Institute is a fun, hands on museum and don’t forget to have some awesome philly food! ( cheesesteaks!)

Reading Terminal Market is a great place to eat and is close to the historical area downtown with the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross House, Indepence Hall and National Consitution Center.
The Art Musuem and Franklin Institute are terrific as is a run along boathouse row and Kelly Drive (named for Grace Kelly who was from Philadelphia)
As for hotels…the Ritz, Four Seasons and The Rittehnhouse are all great and centrally located downtown but it depends on your budget. The Sofitel might be less pricey and still great and in the same area.
We have gorgeous suburban neighborhoods and a little history out of the city as well. Valley Forge Park is a great piece of history and a beautiful place for a nice long run.

ps…the Barnes Museum is a great place to visit that is a little off the beaten path. You need reserved tickets that can be arranged on line.
A great restuarant is The Old Bookbinders. I love Philly!!
