A Spring Wedding at Home

Last weekend our neighbors got married and we were lucky enough to be invited.  I’m a sucker for a wedding and couldn’t say “Yes!” fast enough.  The couple set up a tent for food, a bar, tables for socializing, and that was about it.

The wedding took place under a stand of Dogwood trees with the groom’s son and bride’s daughter at their sides.  The ceremony took two minutes, tops.

The flowers were done by a gentleman who is a florist on the side.  He’s very popular in my town and I would say is busy most every weekend.  I would love to work for him.  Seriously!

The bride made the food herself.  It was delicious and I don’t know how she did it all.  She’s a teacher and only took off Thursday and Friday from work to prepare.

The band set up next door in my father-in-law’s yard.

It was a perfect evening for a wedding.

I think that Mr. SP and his sister look like twins.  Would you believe that she is over 50??

The drinks flowed, people started to leave, and then dancing in the yard began.

This is my favorite shot of the night, the bride and her daughter getting down on the sidewalk.  Me thinks these ladies like to par-tay!

I was thrilled when I was asked to take home an arrangement.  It stayed beautiful for a week and  provided much enjoyment.

I’m already looking forward to the next wedding but I’ll have to wait until August when my cousin gets married in Omaha.  I’ve never been to Omaha, so I’ll look forward to seeing a new-to-me place and attending a wedding.

  1. The perfect wedding for grownups! Please share details on the Omaha wedding…send me an email and I can give you some “things to see” and places to get a gigantic juicy steak if you’ll have time to venture out on your own. All my relatives except my parents and brother live in Omaha…sister, aunts and uncles, cousins, college friends….the Midwest doesn’t make a big deal about “hospitality” but the people there are genuinely friendly and very salt of the earth.

  2. Oh my gosh–I grew up in Omaha! Best things to do: Old Market (awesome downtown area with cobblestone streets, shops and restaurants), the Henry Dorly zoo (world renowned!), the pedestrian bridge (walkway going from Omaha to Council Bluffs that goes over the Missouri river-wonderful to walk over at night) and Durham museum. Last but not least, my favorite restaurant is Lo Sole Mio–great authentic Italian! August is hot in Omaha but it’s a great place to visit! I know you’ll be busy with the wedding but I thought I’d give you a few of my favorite things to do. Have a wonderful time!

  3. What a fun wedding!!! Love that they had a live band…how cool is that?! The flowers were just lovely!

  4. Now that looks like a fun crowd. What a perfect wedding…loved the flowers and how nice that you got to enjoy them afterwards.

  5. OH, how I love weddings! The flowers are gorgeous! So, the band set up in your FIL’s yard? Does that mean you live next door to your FIL? or did I misunderstand? I love that picture of the bride and daughter dancing. They look like a fun group of folks to hang out with. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Just got caught up on your blog. It looks like you’ve been busy. The wedding looks like a lot of fun and you and your husband look stunning! Carla
