St. Patrick’s Day Mantel
It’s almost spring, hurray! When St. Patrick’s Day arrives, we all know that spring is just around the corner. If I have a drop of Irish blood, then it’s through my adopted, red-headed great-grandfather. If he wasn’t Irish, then I haven’t a drop of Irish blood circulating in my body. Never-the-less, it’s the season to celebrate the Irish and a good opportunity to create a St. Patrick’s Day mantel.
Green is the theme and my Kimba-inspired lemon drop wreath coordinates beautifully. (Can you see that one ping-pong ball is missing? I need to fix that!) Green candles, white pottery, and brass candlesticks look pretty together.
The green and gold box was my grandmother’s, recently given it to me by my aunt. Granny loved to play bridge and I wonder if it originally held cards.
The needlepoint pillows on the chairs were created by my grandmother long ago and were always on her blue sofa in the formal living room.
Vintage St. Patrick’s post cards were my original mantel inspiration.
Fannie and Willie were sisters. It looks like Fannie met a new man and hopes that the leap year brings her luck!
This year we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Maryland while we attend a birthday party for my great-aunt who is turning 100. It will be an opportunity to see family that I’ve not seen in a long while. Mama will go with us and I always love spending time with her.
How will you celebrate?
Probably my favorite thing about ALL your decorating ideas is the seasonal vintage postcards.
Absolutely adorable and festive. Amazingly I don’t do much decorating during St. Patricks and when I do it’s all because it’s my son’s birthday. Sounds like you’re going to have a lot of fun with family, have a great trip and can’t wait to hear all about it!!
I like your mantel a lot! The wreath gives it a nice, Springy pop of color too…perfect with the green. 🙂
Hi Paula, Your mantle looks great! What neat post cards and I love that gold and green box on the end of the mantle…pretty! Glad you joined the party! Kristen

Erin go bragh!!! LOVE this mantel. What special things, especially the box. I love the pop of lemon in the wreath, too. I need some green candles. Yours are the perfect shade of green!!! 😀
Enjoy your Sunday!
