A Sunday Drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway
After a crushing third set tie-breaker loss for our mixed doubles team on Sunday, Mr. SP and I decided to head to the parkway to lick our wounds and take in some glorious fall color. We are lucky to live less than 30 minutes from the parkway.
We stopped at many of the overlooks between the James River Center and the Peaks of Otter. The color was just past the peak, but still breathtakingly beautiful.
Stop number one was the Terrapin Mountain overlook.
Looking in the opposite direction from the overlook was beautiful color. That’s Mr. SP’s sweet daddy.
Can it get any prettier?
Stop number two was the Arnold Valley overlook.
Stop number three was Sunset Fields.
Onion Mountain Overlook was next.
Headforemost Mountain Overlook was the final stop before the Peaks of Otter Lodge.
Last stop – The Peaks of Otter Lodge. You can see Sharp Top Mountain here. You can hike to the top for a killer view.
What a great way to end a weekend!
It’s raining here now and I’m sure that a lot of the leaves will be gone by morning. I’m glad that we were able to get out and enjoy the foliage while it was still pretty.
How beautiful! I love this time of year. I was getting hungry looking at your cookies. Your hubby did a great job decorating them! I also love the glittered gourds, great idea! Kristen
we went to Blue Ridge Parkway, on the second week of Oct and the leaves were beautiful….what a beautiful place to live….thanks for sharing…Pat H
I know that every state thinks that it’s foliage is the best, but I truly believe that Virginia’s is the most beautiful that I’ve seen.
Thanks for the beautiful pics of VA & the blue ridge pkway…my kids were to liberty u…so i have fond memories of that area and the peaks of otter. We’re at the seashore but fall in VA is spectacular.
Guess winter will be upon us soon…and maybe snow!
Best wishes …Jennifer aka Gigi
