Upcycled Medicine Bottle Jack-o-Lantern
Now that we are well into October, I’m adding a touch of Halloween to my fall decor. For this year’s Halloween decor, I made an Upcycled Medicine Bottle Jack-o-Lantern.
Isn’t he cute? Let me show you how I made it so that you can make one for your own Halloween decor.
How to Make an Upcycled Medicine Bottle Jack-o-Lantern
Supplies
- Large Orange Medicine Bottle – I used a Sundown Naturals Calcium bottle.
- Black Vinyl (or black felt or black electric tape) – Or order this inexpensive Jack-O-Lantern face.
- Stem from a Small Pumpkin or Gourd
- Brown Floral Bind Wire
- Twine
- Faux Leaves
- e6000 glue
- Goo Gone
Procedure
Remove Label from Medicine Bottle
Peel off the label from the Sundown Naturals orange bottle and then use Goo Gone to remove the label residue.
After doing this, I ran the bottle through the dishwasher to make sure that it was very clean.
Add Face and Stem to Bottle
For the face, I used my Silhouette to cut out a Jack-o-Lantern design that I purchased. If you don’t have a vinyl cutter, you could cut out a face by hand on vinyl, felt, or even use electric tape.
This inexpensive Jack-O-Lantern face is another option to use.
For the stem, I used a stem from a gourd that I dried a long time ago. If you don’t have a dried stem, buy a gourd or small pumpkin, break the stem off, and glue it to the medicine bottle lid using e6000 glue.
Another option is to order dried stems.
Add Leaves
Glue a few faux leaves from a floral stem beside the dried gourd stem using e6000 glue.
Embellish with a Curl
Cut off two pieces of brown floral bind wire and loosely twist them together. Wrap around the bottle neck, twisting the pieces to secure it in place.
Wrap the wired twine around a pencil to curl it.
Wrap Twine around the Stem
The base of the stem looked a bit exposed, so I wrapped a section of twine around it to hide the raw edge.
Decorate with the Upcycled Medicine Bottle Jack-o-Lantern
I love how this project turned out and I know I’ll enjoy using this Jack-o-Lantern in my Halloween decor for years to come.
Here my Jack-o-Lantern is perched on two vintage books.
If you visited my house, you’d see this on my porch on top of the same two books with the addition of a few acorns that I picked up on walks with my dog.

This Upcycled Medicine Bottle Jack-o-Lantern was both easy and fun to make and I think is super cute.
Instead of recycling an orange medicine bottle, use it to make a fun Jack-o-Lantern to use for Halloween decor in your home.
