Vintage Drum Table Makeover
Back in February I shared with you the antiques that my teacher assistant passed along to me from her aunt’s estate. A drum table has been patiently waiting in the workshop for its makeover and it is now complete.
Two of the legs were loose and one was out of position making the table lean to the side. That was a quick fix with wood glue and clamps. It needed some light sanding and then it was time for the fun part, paint.
After much debate, I decided to paint the table with Luxurious from Velvet Finishes. You may remember that I used this same color on an end table that also came from my teacher assistant’s home. After painting, the table’s top got two coats of Velvet Finish’s Protect, a non-yellowing polyurethane.
The lion’s head pull got refreshed with a few swipes of Rub ‘n Buff as did the feet. The two lines of gold were painted with Rustoleum Accents paint from Lowe’s.
To accessorize the table I used a Haviland platter that was my grandmother’s, a decanter that belonged to my sweet friend Elsie’s mom and dad, a vintage corkscrew that I found in a box of trash in front of an elderly couple’s home, and a brass “pocket change” holder that I just scored at Goodwill.
I’ve moved this piece to our living room and have already started to enjoy it.

This may be my favorite makeover yet! I love the color you picked and the gorgeous gold details! You should post a picture of where it is in your house.
Megan and I think alike. I love this table. The gold accent in the grooves is genius.

Congratulations on your deserved feature at Friday’s Furniture Fix, Paula!! Love the color you chose and the gold accents really stand out.
I hope you share it too with us this week at Sweet Inspiration party. Enjoy the rest of the week!
Love this! What color rub ‘n buff did you use?
I don’t have that tube anymore and I wish I’d included that information in my blog post. I’m going to guess that it was an antique gold color.
