Why Did We Wait so Long…
to try Lynchburg’s newest and best restaurant???
Last night we joined two other couples for dinner at Shoemakers Restaurant. Shoemaker’s is located in the recently opened Craddock Terry Hotel. At one time Craddock Terry was the number five shoe producer in the US. The buildings are old warehouses and the old shoe factory that overlook the James River. Lynchburg is slowly trying to revitalize the downtown and the riverfront area and doing a good job of it. The restaurant building has exposed brick and stone walls and the decor is modern. It’s on the pricey side and will be a special occasion restaurant for us.
We started off with cocktails and a hot seafood sampler appetizer. It had clams casino, oysters rockefeller, and calamarie. Mmmm… Next time I might get this as my entree.
Salad choices are iceberg wedge, caesar, spinach, or tomato mozzarella basil. I had spinach with warm bacon dressing. Again, so good!
For entrees, the guys all had flounder stuffed with crabmeat. I had a crabcake and the other two ladies had a filet special. The crabcake was pure crab – no filling at all. I am a big eater and I could only finish half. Guess what I’ll have for lunch today?
Sides are a la carte and serve two people. Hubby and I had mashed red bliss potatoes with garlic and sauteed spinach. Both were excellent!
We were too stuffed for dessert, but I’ll go back one day to do drinks, salad, and dessert.
It was a great evening and so much fun to go out with friends. We’ve never been out with these two couples and it was fun to get to know them a little better.
I am drooling. Your dinner sounds delicious! Love revitalized downtown places – this sounds like a great restaurant.
I am glad you all had fun! It sounds like a great restaurant.
so do you say “Shoemakers” like some one who, um, makes shoes…or do you say Shoemakers” like some one who mocks shoes [vbg]?
It’s shoe “makers” because shoes used to be made in the building!
