Crafting a New Wreath
Did you see this fabulous burlap wreath that Jen from Tatertots and Jello featured on January 3rd?
I loved this wreath the instant I saw it and knew that I would make one for myself. Click here for Jen’s excellent tutorial.
I was determined not to buy a thing to make this wreath. I realized that I would not have enough burlap to do my wreath exactly like Jen’s, so I improvised. I used leftover fabrics from past sewing projects along with burlap. I used every last scrap of burlap that I had stashed away! The buttons are extras from clothing purchased over the years. Do you have a bag full of those, too? This was a great way to put them to good use.
This is my version of Jen’s wreath.
I started the project by making a template out of cardboard for the two circle sizes. I raided my fabric stash to find several fabrics that coordinated. I cut the circles and then glued one on top of the other and finally glued a button on top of that.
I sorted the circles by color to make sure that I evenly distributed them around the wreath form as I glued.
I cut strips of fabric and wrapped them around a straw wreath form to cover it.
One area didn’t get covered with fabric, but I didn’t worry about it because I knew I could hide it.
The last step was to glue the burlap and fabric circle all over the wreath.
Ta-da! All finished!
I had enough fabric circles left to make a second wreath.
For now these two wreaths are spicing up my screened porch.
